I Tested my AI Agents in n8n Using OpenAI’s 4o and New 4.1 Models so You Don’t Have To - One is a Clear Winner
I’ve got my own Matchless AI Assistant that connects with multiple other AI Agent workflows in n8n. Prior to today, they were all using OpenAIs 4o and 4o-mini models for my LLM of choice.
Yesterday, 4/14/25, OpenAI released models in the 4.1 family including 4.1, 4.1-mini, and 4.1-nano.
I decided to test my Assistant out with requests before updating to the new version to see what kind of responses I got.
Since the AI Agents are already given System Prompts to control how they act, think, and respond my Requests are more natural language than the structured prompts you would normally see when working with ChatGPT.
Here are the test results:
Request 1: Blog Article
“Let's write another blog article. This one should be about the way AI is reshaping how busy parents handle their routines. This can be from meal planning to balancing schedules, or finding new ways to do routine tasks around the house, or parenting techniques. The target audience should be parents of children at any age level.”

- The blog article felt more naturally written with my provided writing style, and the added links to some of my other blogs that it pulled in the RSS feed, along with the formatting really made a difference in the responses.
Request 2: Social Media Posts in Long-form Format
“Let's do a social media posting for Facebook and LinkedIn, both long-form posts on the subject comparing parenting in 2025 to what it was like parenting in 2020 during the COVID lockdowns. They should be humorous in nature.
Can you confirm that the posts were made? I don't need the actual content, just confirmation they were done and put on my Google sheet.”

As discovered through the process of sending the same requests across my AI Assistant’s desk using both 4o and 4.1 models, there is a clear advantage to the responses that are given by upgrading to the 4.1 models. On top of the content and responses feeling more natural and the formatting improving in almost every area, the n8n workflows actually were completed faster than using the 4o models. So, you get better results, cheaper usage, and faster responses - a Win-Win across the board.
